Proper Parts was founded in 2006 by Alex Porti when he couldn't find a replacement power seat gearbox for a 1981 Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit. This led him to engineer and build a robust power seat transmission to replace the original. Since then, Proper Parts has sold over a thousand seat transmissions for certain model years of Rolls-Royce and Bentley, as well as many General Motors models from the late 1970s through the late 1980s: Cadillac, Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac. He also manufactured components for these power seat systems.
In 2011, Proper Parts introduced newly designed electronic control units (ECUs) that control power seats and mirrors in Range Rover Classic, Rolls-Royce, and Bentley models. Since their introduction, over a thousand ECUs have been sold worldwide.
With over 25 years of experience restoring Rolls-Royce and other classic cars, Alex brought a troubleshooter’s perspective to identifying problems and engineering innovative solutions.
Following his passing in September 2026, Proper Parts II was established to continue his work and manufacture the products he developed. We plan to bring more of the original product line back into production while continuing to develop new parts.
All our parts are designed and manufactured in the United States. We sell directly to individual car owners, restorers, and dealers in the United States and internationally.
